Crane migration

I’ve just been reading a German newsletter with an item about the spectacular crane gathering at the Linumer Teichen in Brandenburg. This made me realise how lucky I am to have experienced this grand migration spectacle twice in the past few years. Seeing thousands of cranes flying over is already pretty impressive stuff, but the sound they all produce together is a completely overwhelming experience. Around 60,000 cranes spend a few weeks at the wetlands around Linum, foraging before they move on – bellies now nice and full – to their wintering grounds in Spain. If you happen to find yourself in that particular area of the world at this time of the year, don’t miss the opportunity to witness this majestic spectacle.
